Tips for Creating a Carefree, yet Polished Style this S/S!

Hello Stylish Ones!

There is a gentle, carefree energy in spring and summer that, if left unchecked, can take a turn for the worse in our fashion choices, producing a look that is sloppy or too relaxed.

Blame the balmy nights or the sizzling sun, this is a time of year when we yearn to be carefree, both in our agendas and our style.

What I’ve noticed most in my part time gig as a style voyeur, and full time gig as a personal stylist, is that most people put more effort into their Fall fashion. The chill in the air invites us to layer, whereas the hotter temperatures tempt us to get as au natural as possible to prevent schvitzing any more than is necessary.

I invite to you to remember, you can still be laid back and casual, without looking unkempt. All it takes is a few simple changes, a few simple tricks!

1. Simplify

Figure out now what your staple, go to pieces are going to be for this summer. Pick breezy fabrics such as cotton and chiffon to stay cool. Put away your heavy fabrics and accessories, and opt for lighter, brighter, easier pieces instead. Bring those items front and center in your closet, making them easily accessible and ready to go.

2. Quality

I love the look of high and low, corrupted glamour, distressed with pearls. To keep keep your look polished, make sure every outfit has some quality pieces in the mix. Do not expect to wear your grungy flip flops with other tattered items and think you’re pulling it off. Your friends have started a collection jar for you.

3. Details

The famous German-American architect Mies van der Rohe is famous for saying “God is in the details”. He also quipped the phrase “Less is more”. Both are apropos here. Summer calls for light, airy accessories, hair and make up, and less of all of the above. Rather than go without all together, as so many are wont to do, go for a little to perfect your look.
